(Sanskrit: "the happy land, the pure land")
In Mahayana Buddhism, Sukhavati is the Western "paradise", which is ruled over by the buddha Amitabha. Those who honour Amitabha with lifelong pious devotion are reborn in Sukhavati, and pass from there into nirvana.
