Pamelor (PAM-ell-ore)

Generic name: nortriptyline (nor-TRIP-till-eene)

Class: tricyclic

Possible side-effects: sleepiness, confusion, impotence, dry mouth, constipation, hypertension, change in weight, change in libido

Pamelor is an older antidepressant that's often used in people who do not respond to SSRIs. Unlike the SSRIs and many of the tricyclics, Pamelor has a mild sedating effect, so it's useful for depressed patients who suffer from insomnia or early waking.
