Specifically cadmium which was used in the cadmium green dye used for the Lucky Strike packs was needed for the war effort. when Lucky Strike released their filtered cigarettes in 1997 they put trivia cards in all of the packs and L.S./M.F.T. was included in the trivia questions as was the question 'why did the packs change from green to white'.
