A
control panel in the
Macintosh operating system that reduces the
repeat rate of the
keyboard. This is an
accessibility feature that allows folks with disabilities that affect their
motor coordination or whatnot to use a keyboard without trailing a half dozen extra
characters. This does not effect the
speed setting for the
mouse.
Unfortunately, when left on after the slower and more deliberate typist leaves the keyboard, this renders the keyboard all but useless to average users. Instead of responding to a typical pattern of keystrokes with something like a timeout the operating system trips the keyboard bell. This effect results in an enormous number of help calls at my work.
