Jiroemon Kimura of Kyotango in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan died today at the age of 116. He was the world's oldest living man, and may have been the oldest man ever -- past claims of lifespans up to 120 and more have been made, but have not been as well documented. (The oldest living human was the well documented Jeanne Calment of France, living from 1875–1997, 122 years).
Jiroemon Kimura was the last surviving male born in the 19th century. The last surviving woman of the 19th century is Misao Okawa, also of Japan. --Update: Misao Okawa passed away on April 1, 2015.
