In
International sort ordering,
ASCII sort order is changed as follows:
-
Characters are sorted by
alphabetical position: A and a are equal and come before B
-Characters with
diacritical marks are expanded accordingly:
umlauted a becomes ae for sort ordering, ß becomes ss, etc.
-
Lowercase characters are applied first; for example, deJesus appears before Dejesus
-
Norwegian,
Danish,
Swedish, and
Finnish å, Å and umlauts are placed at the end of the regular
alphabet for those countries
This sort order differs from ASCII sort ordering.
