In the search for
extrasolar planets that could possibly support
life, the term
Goldilocks Planet is used to describe a
planet that is just the right temperature for such a purpose. The
temperature is neither too
hot, nor too
cold.
It's juuust right.
There is a planet, 70 Virginis b, that is described as "The Goldilocks Planet" because of it's similarities to earth. The planet is roughly the size of Jupiter but seems to have a regular orbit around the star 70 Virginis, which has a spectral type of G5, the same as our own sun. The 70 Virginis solar system is located near the constellation Virgo, roughly 78 light years from our sun.
