Federation Internationale de L'Automobile, an international association of motoring organizations. The FIA has two divisions, one responsible for touring matters such as safety, environment, and consumer protection, and the other responsible for governing international motor racing, including the Formula One World Championship and the World Rally Championship.
The FIA dates back to 1904 and is responsible for things such as racing colors and mandating the use of safety helmets in international racing events.
