Looking to put an end to the historic rivalry between the trumpets and the french horns, the trumpet players created a heavy, larger, imitation trumpet designed to create maximum arm and pinky stress during the horn's weakest time: marching season. During this hellish time, the horns are forced to abandon their respectable instrument and wield the feared mellophone. This, of course, leads to the french horn/mellophone player's arms falling off at the end of every marching season, and renders them useless during concert season, while their missing limbs are still regrowing.
