with a width of one en
--half the width of an em dash. In typewritten texts, the en dash is represented by a single hyphen
. Though it is often seen misused where an em dash belongs, its correct usage is in fact very different.
The en dash has three primary functions:
- to indicate an inclusive or continuing range of numbers or dates
- to connect a unit modifier with a two-word or hyphenated element
- in place of a hyphen in ALL–CAPITAL text.
