The first edition of this British vehicle reached a speed of 633.468 mph. This was achieved in 1987.

Now the year is 1997. Andy Green prepares his launch in Black Rock Nevada. The new Thrust SSC II that he pilots is now equipped with TWO Rolls-Royce jet engines! After a few trials, the Thrust SSC II achieved a new world landspeed record of 1233.47 km/h (763.035mph). This vehicle became the first land vehicle to break past the 700mph barrier, and the speed of sound (~1210 km/h).
