Trazodone is a drug
meted out in 50 mg
increments to treat
depression and depression with anxiety. It has a
sedating effect and is therefore rarely prescribed. In reading up on it, I've found that it's bad for people who have had recent
heart attacks, and for males in general. Apparently this drug causes
priapism (prolonged erection), which can sometimes be so severe that it takes
surgery to correct it. Ouch.
This drug was prescribed to me after I experienced about a month's worth of
insomnia on
Celexa. The first dose knocked me out and gave me
vivid and frighteningly strange
dreams.
According to the
pharmacy documentation I was given, it is unknown exactly how this drug works - just that it affects the
neurotransmitters in the brain, and that it is not categorized as an
SSRI.
