Mimulus is a common flowering shrub found in chaparral areas of California. It is charactarized by enlongated, sticky leaves, and tubular flowers, usually yellow or orange, which are also sticky. This plant is sometimes known as 'sticky monkey flower'. It is a somewhat small shrub, with many varieties. Most prefer wet areas, although some are found on dry hillsides. The species is extremely genetically diverse - many specimens which look the same are only distantly related.
