An extremely uncommon malignant tumor composed of fat cells. They arise primarily in deeper structures, especially in the thigh, leg, and buttock. Liposarcomas rarely arise from lipomas. Beginning as inconspicuous swellings, they usually attain an appreciable size before they are diagnosed and treated. Treatment involves surgery.
