In first person shooters since the Doom series, the Quake series (both published by the id Software company in Mesquite, Texas), to the Unreal series (published by Epic Megagames in Raleigh, North Carolina), gibbing is the use of one's weapons to blow up an opponent into indecipherable chunks of brain, blood, and many other body parts known as gibs. In Quake 3 Arena, one can gib an already dead body with weapons like the shotgun, the plasma gun, the railgun, and (my favorite) the Rocket Launcher. Best done with any weapon while using a Quad Damage item.
