Diocles sometime around 180 BC.
He was interested in the problem of
doubling the cube one of
the three geometric problems of antiquity.

are a circle, a tangent line to the circle, and the point on the circle opposite to the intersection point of the tangent and the circle.
If this latter point is (0,0) and the tangent is x=a
then we get a cissoid with equation
y2(a-x)=x3.
