The caret looks like this: '^'. If you try to follow a link with a caret, Everything will pretend the caret wasn't in the link. For example, ^ will take you to the Everything main page.

You are probably wondering why I am writing this... well, it's because this caret issue screwed up one of my first nodes, and I figured I should warn people. Consider yourself warned.

The caret symbol is used in the UNIX csh shell as a word designator. It is commonly used to fix typo's on a command line.

The caret is also known as a 'circumflex'.

Ca"ret (?), n. [L. caret there is wanting, fr. carere to want.]

A mark [^] used by writers and proof readers to indicate that something is interlined above, or inserted in the margin, which belongs in the place marked by the caret.
