Audiology is the study of
hearing and
hearing loss.
Audiologists' work centers mainly around hearing loss:
prevention,
detection, and
treatment of. Audiologists test for hearing loss, fit
hearing aids, refer patients to
physicians or speech-language pathologists if
surgery or further testing is indicated, and generally counsel people on how to deal with hearing loss, including training in how to use hearing aids and techniques to maximize the hearing that remains. Because so much hearing loss is preventable or at least minimizable, audiologists also have a large role in public
health education about hearing loss, and conduct hearing screening programs to catch hearing loss early on.
It's alllll about the ear, mannnn.
