The
Microsoft(R)
Windows(R) Scripting Host is a
language-
independent scripting host for
scripting engines that are
Windows Script compatible. The usual two script engines are Microsoft
JScript (.js) and
VBScript (.vbs), although other script engines are possible. Its
function is to make
objects and
services available to the script, and to provide
guidelines/
security for running the script. It is capable of running
scripts from both the
desktop and the
command prompt. It is designed for non-interactive tasks, such as
logons,
administrative tasks,
automation, and
viruses (not necessarily intentional).

The WSH comes
built in with
Windows 98,
Windows 2000,
Windows ME, and
Internet Explorer 5. It can be downloaded for
Windows 95.
