When Mac OS X was released, there were two complaints that rippled through the Macintosh community, two features that were abandoned in the new OS: Spring-loaded folders and windowshading. With the upcoming release of Jaguar, spring-loaded folders are returning to OS X.

Unsanity has addressed the second complaint: Their shareware application WindowShade X brings windowshades back to OS X.

I found this application useful enough to buy a copy; I strongly recommend it to anybody who browses the web for more than two hours a day.

  • Mac OS X: $120
  • Mac OS X 10.1: $120
  • Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar: $120
  • WindowShade X: $7
  • The ability to fit 50 different nodes on your screen and know what they contain: Priceless
