Vinegar peppers are
sweet peppers pickled in vinegar, in this case I am referring to the
Italian variety. They can be bought in some grocery stores (they come in jars) or definitely at an Italian grocery store if you happen to have one of those nearby.
Some things you can do with vinegar peppers:
- Use them in salads. A favorite salad to make is romaine lettuce, tomatoes, provolone cheese, salami, olives and vinegar peppers. For dressing balsamic vinegar and olive oil is best- goes good with italian bread or garlic bread. (I tend to use too much olive oil, so I use the bread to clean up the oil off my plate.)
- Use them on pizza. They are a good topping and not too spicy so they go well with most everything.](note on making pizza sauce: it is not like normal spaghetti sauce- you make it using tomatoes(esp pastene kitchen-ready tomatoes), water, sugar, and basil) I usually put vinegar peppers with salami, onions or mushrooms on a pizza.
- Also while making pizza, wrap a small piece of vinegar pepper and a small piece of provolone cheese in a piece of salami and add some tomato sauce by using the salami like a scoop. This is a good snack for while you are waiting for your pizza to cook.
- you can use them in making a sandwich esp. with meats like cappicola, mortadella, salami, or roast beef.
