Originally written for his 12 year old son, J.S.Bach's 2 Part Inventions are a collection of simple works for the keyboard. Simple is a bit of a deceptive term here, as none of Bach's work is simple. They merely have fewer notes than his preludes and fugues. I highly recommend them for any keyboard player who enjoys Bach, as they are very enjoyable to play. Because of their relative simplicity, they can offer a way to begin to understand Bach's other music, such as the Well Tempered Clavier. Sometimes their form is almost fugal, sometimes more like the preludes, but, as the name suggests, they are based around the idea of two parts, one for each hand. My personal favourites are the ones in E major, A minor and Bb major.
