A Yorkshire word, roughly meaning "to justify an expense".

It won't come as surprise to anyone aware of the reputation of Yorkshiremen as penny-pinching spend-thrifts that the common usage entails an inability to thoil a purchase.

Usage is dwindling, but has been ingrained into my sub-conscious by my grandparents, who still use it to explain the virtues of supermarket own brands over the household named versions.
