TCAP is the acronym for Transaction Capabilities Application Part. This is the counterpart to ISUP in the SS7 protocol. TCAP encompases all other applications of the protocol that are not ISUP. This includes E800, CNAM, CLASS, AIN, LNP, LIDB, and IS41. ISUP does plain vanilla end-to-end routing and TCAP usually involves some extra data lookup.
