A wine with too much sulfur smells like a burnt matchstick. It is easily identified and thus a negative quality. It is usually found in white wine - in particular those with a low pH. It can cause sneezing and pain. The taste is characterized by a prickling sensation in the back of the throat and upper part of the nose.
