The
Nightshade family, containing 95
genera and 2500
species of
plants. Many of these plants are well-known, some of which
are
weeds, some of which are cultivated for food, and still others for
flowers and as ornamentals.
Nightshade plants are generally poisonous; although many of these
plants provide vegetables edible by humans, they contain a toxic alkaloid
that will kill domestic animals. Don't feed your dog eggplant.
