My grandmother lived alone.

She lived in a small house with tables covered with faded doilies, closets filled with mothballs and loads of antiques. She had many collections of things she valued, Some of which were quite rare, some of which held no value to anyone else.

When she died and we had to empty out the house it was time to parcel out the inheritance. I got the mystery jar. It was a glass jar filled with marbles, buttons, string and Scrabble pieces. Faded, almost brown. When I emptied out the jar I found that there were exactly ten letters.

No one wondered if it was a coincidence after we found a stack of love letters, bound with a red ribbon, hidden under her mattress.
