In 1980 the Mint began placing mintmarks on all US coins. In December 1982 a large number of 1982 dimes appeared in the Ohio without mintmarks. These dimes were all traced back to an amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio. A total of 8,000 to 10,000 showed up in the next few months.
