I remember that the doctor's
grim expression was not
reassuring
It was two months removed from my accident-
A fall from the tree had
broken my leg
Dark x-ray print marked the fissure
"It will have to be broken again," he mumbled, avoiding any eye contact
"It won't heal in that position."
Even at that young age
It seemed an odd remedy
Breaking something to help it heal?
So many years later
My heart would have the same experience
I could have done without either
