Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax- PSP is caused when a bleb in your lung ruptures and creates atmospheric pressure in your chest forcing your lung to collapse. A bleb is an air pocket that can be caused by heredity, smoking, or sudden and drastic changes in air pressure. The causes of PSP are generally unknown however it is more prevelent in males than females, with body types that are tall and thin. Smoking also increases the chances of you having PSP. Treatment for PSP would be to insert a chest tube to inflate the lung and possibly a chemical injection or surgery. After you have had a PSP, you are unable to scuba dive, work in a hyperbarric chamber, and work as a pilot or flight attendant.
