The term "paddy wagon" refers to what is officially known as a "Police Patrol Vehicle." Due to the negative view of Irish immigrants during the 19th century, as well as the belief that they tended to be criminals or otherwise unruly, these vehicles became commonly referred to as "paddy wagons."
