Most computing shops have this to a certain degree. "Why use third party library code? I'd have to learn it, see if it fits, and then apply it. Faster to write my own."

Unfortunately, often it isn't, and only seems that way. Less fortunate still is the fact that often it is; it takes very few bad experiences with external code before NIH becomes ingrained.

There is no known cure for NIH.
