North American Presentation Layer Protocol Syntax
A protocol for transferring vector graphics to remote terminals via a communications channel. NAPLPS was(is?) used by many Videotext services and standalone information kiosk systems.

In the late 1980s, Bell Canada unveiled ALEX, named after Alexander Graham Bell, a home videotext system. They started renting or selling ALEXTEL terminals which resembled France's MINITEL terminals. The ALEX service was to provide online banking, directory information as well as chat services, all this for mere pennies per minute...
