Slated for completion in 2005, the Maitreya Project is ambitious undertaking funded by Buddhists from around the world. What it entails is the construction of a special meditation park, the centrepiece of which is a giant bronze (coated, I'd imagine) statue of Buddha that will dwarf the Statue of Liberty. The Buddha will be so large, in fact, that it will be sitting upon a 7 story building, which will contain a library and prayer areas.
