Ludology (from ludus, the Latin
word for "game"), to refer to the discipline that studies game and play activities. Ludology is new field of academic
study that has sprung up in the last 10 years. Specifically it is the study of the components of games and the experiences they create.
One of the main focuses of this field is to create an evironment of serious video game criticism
. A goal is to apply the same intellectual rigor to video games
that is applied to film or books. Ludology's aim is to also set forth a common vocabulary and concepts that enable video games to be evaluated with consistency.
