A
French freighter, crammed full of
munitions for
Castro's
militia, which exploded at 1500
Friday,
March 4
1960 in
Cuba's
Havana harbour, and immediately started to burn furiously. Hundreds of
police,
firemen and
troops rushed to the scene just in time to for the 2nd massive
explosion. These explosions went on until the stern of the ship sank and the fire eventually burned itself out.
Over 100 people were
killed.
The
CIA were suspected of
sabotage but nothing has even been proven. The
US blamed it in the careless handling of the munitions by the
Cuban dockworkers.
