Video game company famous for their
Historical Simulation Series. These include (but aren't limited to):
- Romance of the Three Kingdoms,
II,
III - Dragon of Destiny,
IV - Wall of Fire,
V,
VI - Awakening the Dragon,
VII
Focuses on China mostly during the 2nd century AD. This is Koei's most famous and successful series. These games are the best of the genre that they created. Epic, and very entertaining once you figure out what's going on. The fifth and seventh game have never been translated into English.
- Uncharted Waters,
II: New Horizons,
III: Costa del Sol,
IV: Porto Estado
Take place in Europe near the beginning of the 1500s, AD. They're all about the high seas; trading, pirating, and exploration. Very cool series that is sadly underrated in North America. Only the first two titles have made it across the ocean.
- Nobunaga's Ambition,
II: Lord of Darkness, III, IV, V, VI, VII
Japan, late 15th century AD. Revolves around the tyrannical warlord Oda Nobunaga, who came this close to becoming Shogun. Again, only the first two games were released outside of Asia.
- Rise of the Phoenix
China, 2nd century BC. Deals with the showdown between Xiang Yu and Liu Bang, the eventual winner and founder of the Han Dynasty. As far as I know, there is only one game in the series (so I guess it's not a series). It was released in North America, but it's very rare.
- Liberty or Death
The American Civil War. Oddly enough, this game was almost not released in the states. It's quite well done, but I'm pretty sure there were no sequels.
- Genghis Khan,
II: Clan of the Grey Wolf
About the rise of Timujin, taking place in Mongolia (and eventually the rest of Asia and Europe) during the 12th century AD. These two are the only games in the series that I know about.
- PTO,
II
- L'Empereur
- Bandit Kings of Ancient China
Most of these have been released for the
PC (
DOS and
Win),
SNES, and
Genesis.
