An early king of parts of France, Charibert was the eldest surviving son of Clothaire. He had three daughters, and his three brothers divided the kingdom after his death. The Avars exploited his weak military, and sacked his kingdom. Saint Germain excommunicated him for marrying the sister of his previous wife. He died excommunicated on May 7, 567 CE.

Correction from mirv:

"The Avars attacked his kingdom, not the Huns---Attila's death in 453 had effectively ended any threat from the former Hunnish Empire."
