"Jewban"-a word embraced by at least some Cuban Jews to describe their heritage.

Caroline Bettinger-Lopez wrote a book called Cuban-Jewish Journeys: Searching for Identity, Home, and History in Miami. One of the topics of the book is the use of the word "jewban" by members of the Cuban-Jewish community. She discussed the term at a bookstore signing by saying, "'Jewban' represents a new notion of community selfhood, a confident group identity. The term shows Cuban Jews becoming more confident with themselves."


I had intended to submit an E2 nuke request when I found this nodeshell because I had never heard of the term before (and I thought it might be about banning jews and I thought that it fell under the category of Don't make shit up. Further research led me to over 70 web pages currently indexed by Google that use this term
