Curse to generations of campers at Camp On-da-da-Waks in July, and Camp Red Pine in August on the serene and beautiful Golden Lake, in Ontario noth west of Renfrew.

In my summer as a counsellor-in-training at Camp On-da-da-Waks, I was never blessed with this particular ailment, though some of those I superintended were.

It is unclear what causes this parasitic infestation, but it is thought to be associated with the golden lake eagle, a magnificent bird, whose droppings contain vast numbers of parasites. These are thought to migrate, through the beautiful Golden Lake waters, to unsuspecting campers.

It is only irritating and is easily treated.

Even today, I have students who spend the summer on Golden Lake at Red Pine Camp (a family camp) who still report cases of the "Itch".
