A predisposition to serious red blood cell destruction (Anemia) from eating fava beans. A sex linked recessive trait found in Mediterranean populations, Yemenite Jews and other oriental Jews.

Due to to a deficiency glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase, which reduces resistance of red blood cells.
