A nickname for the World Series of Major League Baseball, indicative of the fact that the first one and all others since have been played in September or more usually October.
Since the World Series first got the nickname, a number of other sports championships have co-opted it. A recent Google search produced 77,000 hits for the term, and none of the first 50 results had anything to do with Major League Baseball. Go figure.
