Facecrime is a consequence of thoughtcrime, or the thinking of unorthodox thoughts, which is a crime punishable by death in Oceania. Facecrime simply means to betray annoyance, dismay or any other inappropriate emotion or thought through facial expression. Facecrime will almost always come to the attention of the Thought Police, either through the constant surveillance of the telescreens, or the equally vigilant general public.
