Washington, D.C., has a problem which occurs on hot days. PEPCO manhole covers are exploding/flying out of place apparantly as the result of heat. The latest occurance was worsened by a fire below 30th and M Street.

Parts of Georgetown lost power for several days due to this fire.

Apparently the problem is somehow being caused by the current common trench project to have a single street cut used by all of the utilities, fiber providers and other folks who like to cut up streets.
