An Attic hero who is mentioned once in literature: during the battle of Marathon he is supposed to have suddenly appeared on the battlefield wearing peasant's clothes and to have killed many Persians. After the victory he disappeared; an oracle revealed that this mysterious combatant was divine, and ordered that a sanctuary should be dedicated to Echetlus.
