David was born in
Glasgow but grew up in
England. In 1977, David and brother
Mark Knopfler founded the band "
Dire Straits". He split with the band prior to
Brothers in Arms, and now does solo work and web design. Official biographies of Dire Straits do not mention David.

Rolling Stone magazine refers to Knopfler as an "understated charmer". Knopfler lives in the
