The
Chinese-American equivalent of a
panadería. Lots of delicious
pastries, both sweet and savory, and all
cheap. Excellent source of
nutrition for
graduate students and suchlike. There are a number of them in
San Francisco, including a really good one off the park square in
Chinatown. Don't be afraid to point to order, it's hard to go wrong.
Examples:
Beef curry bun, the ever-present
barbecue pork bun,
sausage roll,
moon cake,
cocktail bun,
pineapple bun (mm!),
wintermelon pastry,
bean paste bun,
mantou, etc. etc. None of these should cost you more than a
dollar each, amd most should be substantially less. Many chinese bakeries also carry a few patently
European items, which are usually quite
delicious at half the cost of a "European" bakery.
