Καειρα

The daughter of a potter of Miletus: she played a part in the legend of NELEUS, the son of Codrus. Before leaving his native land, Neleus asked the oracle where he should settle; the oracle replied that he would find a new home at the place where a girl gave him some earth mixed with water. In the course of his wanderings Neleus arrived one day at Miletus and asked caeira to give him some soft clay on which to make the imprint of a seal. Caeira complied with his request, and the oracle was fulfilled: Neleus then assumed power in Miletus and founded three towns in the vicinity.
