Βοτρης
A Theban and the son of Eumelus, a strong devotee of Apollo. One day, when Eumelus was sacrificing a lamb to him, his son Botres was near at hand and helped him, but Botres divided the brain of the sacrificial victim before placing it as an offering on the altar. In a fit of rage, his father seized a brand from the funeral pyre and struck his son, who died immediately. On seeing the grief of Botres' mother and father, Apollo changed him into a bird called the Aeropus; this means 'the bird with a forbidding look' which nests underground and hovers incessantly.
