Born 1914 in Oklahoma City. Billy Tipton was a jazz performer who enjoyed moderate regional success as the frontman for the "Billy Tipton Trio." Tipton never became a household name for his music and became a booking agent in Spokane, WA in his later years. It wasn't until Billy's death in 1989 from a heart attack that his family found out the five-times wed Billy was actually a woman. Billy actually came into the world as Dorothy Tipton. For more than fifty-years, Billy fooled nearly everyone from Duke Ellington to his five wives and three adopted children.

The story made headlines around the world and a book titled Suits Me was written about Billy's life in male drag.
